Project Introduction

This is a game primarily about spaceship combat, each stage is a series of combat encounters with a boss enemy at the end. All ships will drop items when destroyed, which the player can collect before they expire. After each stage, the player can salvage upgrades to their ship and weapons from among the items. To salvage the upgrades requires resources which can be obtained as item drops, but more commonly are obtained by scrapping other items that aren't as useful to the player's current build.

The player needs to balance their ship's energy generation, maneuverability and speed, health and shields, along with their loadout of primary and secondary weapons, countermeasures, evasion boosters, and consumable items to give themselves the best chance of making it through each increasingly difficult combat encounter.

Completing the game requires reflexes, good decision making, and making the best of which items drop during a given attempt.

Fight back for the sake of your people, from the outer orbits of Saturn all the way back to Humanity's homeworld on Earth.

About Developer

My name is Scott McClusky, and I always assumed growing up that I would be a video game developer when I got older. Due to undiagnosed ADD and the incompatibility of myself and the Computer Science program I attempted after high school, I gave up on that thinking I couldn't get a degree programming and thus I needed to find a different career path. In 2020, after years of dissatisfaction with my jobs, I realized that Unreal engine (and others) were getting to the point where one person could feasibly make a game by himself and that if I wanted to make video games I really just needed to start doing it. And COVID provided me with some time off work that I could devote myself to learning C++ and Unreal Engine. Around this time I finally got my ADD diagnosis as well, and I could finally figure out how to get myself to actually do the work instead of just staring at the screen and feeling overwhelmed, and that's when I decided I was going to actually make something that I could show people and say "Hey I made a thing!"

The idea for this game is almost 20 years old at this point. My original thought was that I wanted to make a game that took the gameplay of the "Escape Velocity" series and converted it to play well on a gamepad. That's the game I originally started making, but quickly I realized that was a far too ambitious project for one person, let alone for their first game, so I decided that instead of a sprawling space RPG I'd try to make an arcade game out of the combat aspects. And I wanted to keep the spaceship customization aspect as well. I thought I could complete that within the year...

Now it's 3 years later, and the game is finally almost complete! This has been an incredible journey of learning and there are so many things I am still learning about every day, but I am so excited to finally be able to share this game with people!

Thanks so much to anyone who tries the game and to anyone who even took the time to read this!
