Project Introduction

Story Overview:
The town of Pekoe began when three best friends, Chae-Won, Min, and Michi, take a cross country trip after the loss of Chae-Won’s partner. Upon discovering a small tea plant, the three decide to run their own teahouses in the area as a means of creating spaces focused on community and connection. As they tend to the tea plant, it eventually grows into a giant tree that supports the town’s surrounding spirits and magic. Eventually, others are drawn to the area upon hearing word about the teahouses, and the town of Pekoe is founded.

The game begins 5 years after Chae-Won’s passing, when the Player takes over their teahouse after coming across a listing online. No longer the popular destination it was once, the town of Pekoe is suffering from a sense of disconnection and is withering away. By attracting more business, making friends, and cultivating tea, you are helping to reconnect and heal the hearts of the townsfolk, and ultimately the town itself.

Mechanically Pekoe is played as a physics based crafting game, with management and relationship elements.

About Developer

Kitten Cup Studio is a woman led studio founded by Saffron Aurora. We are a team of 7 people that include a majority of devs who identify as underrepresented genders, POC, 2SLGBTQIA+, or live with mental illness. As we draw from our own experiences in so much of our game design, the entire team is located in Toronto.

Multiple staff members are integrated into the wider Toronto games scene working in organizations or other studios.
