Project Introduction

HOCKEY HEROES is an arcade hockey role-playing party game that combines pick-up-and-play arcade gameplay with foundational role-playing mechanics including a fantasy story mode, dialogue between characters, equipment unlocks and stat upgrades.

HOCKEY HEROES plot tells the story of your ancestor taunting the Hockey Gods who were angered and plunged the world into a forever winter. The only way to save the world and bring back summer is to defeat all 6 Hockey Gods in tournaments across the country. Players create their skater and embark on a journey across Canada to learn about hockey while unlocking equipment and upgrading their team along the way. Players speak with their teammates and opponents to give context to each game while pushing forward the overarching narrative of trying to save the world. HOCKEY HEROES infuses more depth and storytelling with the super fun and over-the-top arcade sports gameplay that everyone loves and can pick-up-and-play.

HOCKEY HEROES features a diverse roster of characters of different backgrounds and abilities. For the first time ever in a hockey video game HOCKEY HEROES will feature Sledge Hockey/Para Hockey Players as playable characters. Players can create their character to look how they want and choose which stats to focus on so they can play the game in their own style. Build a bruising team of giants or a quick and nimble team that snipes top chez. As players battle through tournaments, they unlock equipment and upgrade their skaters from hand-me-down equipment to modern day professional gear and eventually unlocking fantasy gear including sticks that are on fire and gloves covered in spikes.

The entire game has been designed around playing on the couch with your friends. You can create your own tournament or work together to take on the Hockey Gods and save the world...by playing hockey!

About Developer

Treewood Studios was founded by Christopher Atallah in 2020 to support the development of his hockey rpg prototype. Christopher has previously worked as a game developer at TimePlay and Creatubbles in Toronto for nearly a decade and began working on the hockey RPG in his spare time as a full-time game developer.

Up to this point, Christopher has been the solo developer on the project while contracting some of the art assets to local artists. Christopher has put his focus on the core gameplay experience to build out the playable prototype and prove out that arcade sports games are still super fun.

Recently, Christopher has brought on John Little as our Art Director who has started concept art for the new character designs and begun initial modeling.

Treewood has been personally funded by Christopher Atallah along with a small grant contribution we earned through Ontario Creates. We are trying to create Treewood from scratch and bring back the super fun and accessible arcade gaming fun of the 90s and early 00s.
