Project Introduction

Cube Crusaders is a 3D-sidescrolling metroidvania, with gameplay designed to be well paced. It has moments of fast-paced combat and intensity, as well as moments of deep exploration and challenging, but fair platforming which rewards the player for being clever and using the tools at hand to their advantage. Using various weapons such as Freezerays, Gatling Guns, Sniper Rifles and more, the player has a wide range of fun weapons at their disposal for engaging their foes.

Cube Crusaders also features a fairly robust customization system, inspired by the likes of Halo. The player is able to customize their Helmet, visor, shoulders, boots, back pieces, colour, chest pieces, as well as their 'Aura', which is a elemental themed particle effect to give the player some extra 'je ne sais quoi'.

Cube Crusaders gives players 3 main modes to enjoy solo, or with up to 3 other friends locally (4 players total, local co-op, and Steam Remote play only). These modes are:

Campaign - Up to 2 players take on the game's story, deciding the fate of conquered factions in a crusade to unite the planet against a final threat. There are 3 NPC factions planned: The Grubb Tribes, the NightWatch, and The Titans. The campaign features a skill tree which players use to increase their power as the game progresses. Currently, only the first level is playable.

Horde Mode - Up to 4 players take on waves of 'The Horde' - a zombie parasite which turns it's victims into mindless abominations bent on your destruction. With each wave, the Horde becomes faster, and tougher. Every 5 waves, the players are awarded a more powerful weapon.

About Developer

My name is Jacob Francis, I'm 21. I am a full-time professional game dev and I do indie dev during my evenings and weekends. I'm in a perpetual state of creating, often times doing 12-14 hours/day of game development between professional and personal work! I tend to take weekends to fully relax, as the constant motion can become tiresome, and rest is so essential in this industry.

I got my first professional job as a Junior Technical Artist at a Calgary-based company this past January, but despite that, my passion still burns incredibly hot for indie development as an art form, means of story telling, and providing a fun and engaging experience.

I was raised in rural Alberta, and spent 2 years in Vancouver BC after I had finished school to attend college for Game Art and Design. My secondary education gave me invaluable connections to other Canadian game devs who would go on to work on other game studios, both in Canada and abroad.

Through my connections to my former class-mates, and new connections through my professional co-workers, I've found myself in an exciting environment surrounded by passionate artist and programmers in Alberta and across Canada. I hope I can contribute to make a name for Canada as a great place to be a game developer!
