Project Introduction

This is an arcade survival horror game in which the player needs to escape from an underground laboratory before radiation kills him. However, he can only escape by defeating the mutants.
The player moves in the dark, but having found switches, he can turn on the light. However, the light will not burn for long. He can also find plugs and insert them into electrical panels to increase the time the light works.
The player has three attempts to escape. Having died three times, the player will have to start from the beginning.
The player can find various consumables in cabinets and shelves. These can be pills, keys to lockers, disposable shockers, batteries and even vodka.
The game has weapons: a shotgun and a knife. But they are difficult to get. And even if you arm yourself, it will be difficult to defeat the mutants.
There is radiation in the laboratory, which slowly kills the player. The level of radiation on the player can be measured with a Geiger counter. In the game, you can also catch bugs that remove radiation.
The game has notes, documents and newspapers that directly tell the history of the world and the laboratory as a whole.
There are different types of mutants. There are basic mutants: the Rat King and the Lion King. And there are secondary ones with superpowers:
Electric mutant - the stun gun does not work on him and he can turn off the lights;
Gas mutant - has immunity to gas and infects with radiation when hit;
Invisible mutant - he is invisible until he approaches the toll.
You need to find your own approach to each of these mutants.
Mutants can be defeated in different ways: turn on the gas chambers and drive them into these chambers; get a shotgun and shoot everyone; crush them with doors; or you can just drink vodka for courage and take a knife :)
In addition to mutants, there are also dogs in the bunker, but they are easy to defeat by shooting at them with a stun gun.
After defeating the main mutants (Rat King and Lion King), the player will receive the keys to the main exit and will be able to go outside, which is the end of the game. At the end of the game, there are statistics: how many enemies were killed; how many bugs were collected; how many notes were collected.

About Developer

I am a Pixel Wanderer, I love retro themes in games and pixel art. Making games is not just my hobby, but a part of me. If I don't work on games, I get sad. I dream of becoming a recognized indie developer like Toby Fox (Undertale), Edmund McMillen (The Binding of Isaac) and Eric Barone (Stardew Valley). I have dreamed of making games since childhood, but I dared to try only at the age of 24. Before that, I wrote short stories and learned storytelling, created board games to play with my friends, and I am also a DnD dungeon master with a lot of experience. At 24, I decided that it was enough to wait for the moment when I would have money for programming courses and decided to master RPG maker first. "at least something" I thought then. But time went on and I learned the intricacies of level and game design, learned to draw pixel graphics and work with sound. I even managed to work as a character artist in a small indie studio (StellariumGames), which unfortunately fell apart. But it gave me a lot of experience, which I still use today. For a long time, I tried to make a dream game, but I constantly ran into various problems and could never finish the game. In the end, I realized that I was trying to make too big a game and I needed to start small. In the end, I made this game (Lair of Mutants), which took me 4 months. The most ironic thing is that I recently took part in my first jam and made a game no worse, in just two days :)
