Project Introduction
Deceit 2 is a 6-9 player social deduction horror game where two among you have been Infected. Whilst the Infected do the Game Master's bidding, the Innocent must work together to escape the Ritual whilst deducing who is plotting against them.Infected players can activate Blood Altars located across the map, weakening the veil of reality until it breaks. This transports all players to The In-Between, a parallel dimension in which the Infected have terrifying powers, and transform into Terrors.
Players who are Innocent must collaborate and work together to find out who Infected, and also prepare to survive the In-Between. They can utilise the in-game shop of The Peddler to acquire items that can help them achieve these two aims, such as a camera that repels Terrors, a Clipboard that will give them information on other characters, or a Blood Alarm that brings attention to an activated Altar. Infected players can take advantage of items that are designed to manipulate and deceive others: putting a muzzle on a player who is about to out you activating blood will stop them from telling other players.
Collecting items from the shop requires players to release souls trapped in objects around the map. Our first map, the Asylum, has a number of themed objectives: the ccard game in the security room, the chess board in the recreation room, and the broken sinks in the bathroom as some examples. Every player benefits from getting items from the Peddler, but the Innocents benefit from releasing these souls: collect enough, and the Peddler will give you the escape key. Innocents can escape (and therefore win) by collecting the key, or by voting out the Infected during the game.
While not a story-game, the narrative behind Deceit 2’s setting is important: the nine playable characters have found themselves in this situation based on their interest in an online forum Truth Seekers Anonymous. Their investigations have caught the interest of the Game Master, whose history they are diving into, and they soon find themselves trapped in his ritual. Additionally, the in-game shop character The Peddler is tied to the Game Master through his terrible experiments with reality and the In-Between.
Deceit 2 is the sequel to Deceit (2017) - built from the ground up in UE5 with a sandbox approach that give players more choice in playstyle.
