Project Introduction

This Bed We Made draws inspiration from neo-noir films, 1950s pulp fiction novels and our favorite narrative video games to tell the story of Sophie Roy, an inquisitive maid employed at the Clarington Hotel. Just as Sophie finds herself learning about people and lifestyles usually confined to secrecy, we wanted to shed light on the realities of people who weren’t expected to be seen nor heard: queer people and people who live with mental illness.

In many ways, you will feel like you entered an Alfred Hitchcock movie, with the familiar sights, sounds and scenery you would usually associate with your favorite media from the 1950s. But we have shifted the focus, offering a slightly different perspective from what you are used to seeing.

As Sophie, you will be able to snoop through the rooms of the Clarington and the guests’ belongings to learn about a colorful cast of characters and shine a light on the lives they lead behind closed doors. In the process, you will stumble upon a dark mystery and take advantage of the multi-branching narrative structure of the game to make key decisions that will greatly affect how that mystery unfolds.

It will be up to you to look at clues from every angle, solve puzzles and handle yourself discreetly. Since you are playing as a hotel maid, there will be no shortage of messes to clean up, but be careful! A spotless room might just let the wrong people know where Sophie has been.

With this experience, we wanted to offer a balance between freedom of choice and narrative meaning. Thereby, Sophie can also team up with the colleague of her choice at the Clarington. They will experience a day unlike any other in the history of the hotel as they put their heads together to stay ahead of the mystery developing before them. And, if you play your cards right, they might even become closer.

About Developer

We are an indie studio from Montreal. Our team is made up of ambitious creators from a variety of personal and professional backgrounds, each bringing their own voice and expertise to the table. We are united by a common goal: to tell daring stories about people who live outside the norm, from underserved and/or marginalized communities. We are also focused on bringing the medium to an audience that is too often neglected in the gaming world by creating games that require more logic and emotional intelligence than typical video game skills. This Bed We Made is the first of many projects that anyone can play and enjoy, regardless of their level of experience with video games. After all, good stories should be for everyone.
