Project Introduction

Red Trigger 2 is a full length FPA (First Person Adventure) action game set in the world of Red Trigger. It takes inspiration from games like Portal, Metroid Prime and Bioshock, but very much has its own identity. After infiltrating The Gathering Initiative’s firewall, you have more questions than answers. Who is Alaric? Expand and retract red blocks with your laser-gun to puzzle your way to the truth.

In Red Trigger 2, the main mechanic revolves around you shooting red blocks called Red Triggers. When you shoot a Red Trigger, it expands, and when you shoot it back, it retracts.

However, you can only expand three Red Triggers at a time, so you must manage your energy wisely. You can either retract Red Triggers one at a time, or all at once. Be careful though, you don't want to do that while standing on an extended block over a deep, deep void below you!

The Red Triggers are used in many different ways like making platforms, blocking lasers, holding doors open, powering systems, conducting electricity, propelling yourself, inputting codes and more!

As you enter the HUB of the game, you can tackle the biomes all around it in almost any order you want. In each biome, you'll unlock a new ability like a grappling hook, a double-jump, a dash and more, which will allow you to explore more parts of the HUB, a bit like a Metroidvania!

For most of the adventure, you'll be accompanied by a mysterious sassy cat named Off Guard and, together, you'll try to uncover the dark secrets of this universe, as well as his tragic backstory.

Each biome of the game has a single inhabitant that has a specific type of physical or mental pain. The biome they live in represents in an abstract way the struggle they live with. Let's take psychosis for example. In the biome themed around it, as you pass a certain door frame, if you turn around, you'll see that it's not the same room anymore. Trippy! As another example, we have a biome about the famous FOMO, the Fear Of Missing Out, in which you'll meet a character deeply afflicted by this feeling. The character is completely obsessed in seeing everything there is to see, so there's cameras everywhere that you have to stealth your way around, by for example blocking their view with Red Trigger blocks. Help those souls by fighting their mental shackles in a boss fight at the end of each biome!

You play as a computer virus called Red Trigger. At the end of each biome, corrupt that zone and escape back into the HUB! Beware, this won't be easy, as you'll need to do an escape sequence to return to safety as each biome crumbles!

The game takes place directly after the events of the prologue. Uncover the dark truth of this universe through the events of the game, but also through Bioshock-esque audio logs. Piece all those elements together to discover the secrets of this abstract world inside a digital server. All the characters are fully voice-acted and are full of personality.

Red Trigger 2 is about 10 times bigger than the original.

About Developer

Based in Montreal, Bold Spirit Game Studio is a new independent game development studio founded by Maxime Vézina, who worked on titles like Assassin's Creed Origins and Assassin's Creed Valhalla.

Our mission is to provide fun and thought-provoking video games to players around the world. We deeply believe that video games are a powerful medium, and as long as we bring joy to players and inspire other creators, we consider this a big success.

While always putting the fun and the gameplay as the first priority in our games, we also aim to always have serious themes around them, like mental health, global warming, etc..., that can have positive impact on our players and society.

We also deeply believe in young talent, so we like to give the chance to young developers by having them work on our ambitious projects, and prove that they are full of talent. Even if they don't continue with Bold Spirit in the future, we are happy to kickstart their career, as it is hard to enter the industry.

Maxime Vézina is also a final project director at NAD University in Montreal, where he guides students for their final student project, which is usually a game. He really had to heart to train and help the next generation of developers.

Bold Spirit Game Studio is present at all the events in the Greater Montreal area to showcase their games & help others, and they are very well-known in the local indie community, where they offer advice to other developers. Bold Spirit also participated to Gamescom 2023, where they had a kiosk to showcase their work.

For us, it's better to make games that a few people will love, rather than games a lot of people will simply like.
