Grid-M

Project Introduction

Grid-M aims to be an exciting rhythm game that is accessible yet challenging. The gameplay features a mix between traditional lane gameplay and note tap gameplay. By limiting all the notes to a grid, we simplify the game while maintaining a high skill ceiling as grid movement and rotation gets more intense. It also aims to innovate and try new things within the rhythm game genre. A more diverse range of music, a more accessible and involved progression system, an adapted ranking system, and incentives to try new songs and game experiences. Play songs from various artists and music genres including hip hop, broken beat, DnB, electronic music as well as fan favorites like Hardcore and japanese electronic music!
We are trying to make the self improvement gameplay loop a bit more enticing and dynamic. We always highlighting the next reasonable challenge, also inviting players to try the more obscure gameplay modifiers. We also have interesting gameplay plan such as boss battles and ghost attacks. Tailored Leaderboards to stay motivated! Ranking are abstracted such that you can see manageable goals rather than a top 10 with scores irrelevant to your skill levels. Spontaneous spotlights can highlight what to play next. Those spotlights can also be quests that are within reach: the extra push to just try to get it. Popping up like “Here comes a new challenger”: unprompted, but an opportunity that shouldn’t be missed!

About Developer

Hi, I'm Joh! I am a young individual from montreal that has been making games for as long as I can remember. I usually like to make games that make you think and challenge the brain. A lot of my games are on the smaller side, leveraging simple yet clever core mechanics for puzzle-like gameplay. I am a creative person, love game jams and I feel fortunate to have the ability to turn ideas into enjoyable games. Grid-M has been one of my most ambitious project, it is a rhythm game and I have been collaborating with some of my local musician friends for some of the music. The game was also awarded some funding from Pixelles Montreal C'est Fini funds, which aimed to support underrepresented individuals and teams such as myself. With the funding I have been able to hire outside support, including international composers and artists and I was able to attend conferences and start to really feel part of the indie world. The game has also been playable in one of the GamePlay Space playtest session, the feedback and reception was amazing and very encouraging. So while I have been making games for pretty much all my life, I've only recently started to interact with the Canadian indie game scene and it has been an highly enriching experience! Looking forward to meet more of you!
