Project Introduction
In BIOMORPH, players must use their skills to explore a vast, varied world. The players have to solve puzzles and platforming challenges, fight deadly monsters and take their shapes to use their powers with a skill called BIOMORPH. But beware – every conquered creature can come back with new and even more threatening powers, creating a unique experience while revisiting areas of the game which is part of the exploration process in metroidvania games. Players must rebuild the city of Blightmoor and befriend the townspeople, learning more about both their and the town’s origins. The appareance of the city can be customized to your liking to make it your own. Players can level-up their character as they fight through the vast areas around the city, collecting new abilities, weapons and blueprints. The journey will reveal surprising and alarming truths about our hero’s own origins.About Developer
Lucid Dreams Studio is the dream of the two co-founders, Maxime Grégoire and Francis Lapierre. The two friends met at the Bachelor's degree in Physics at the University of Sherbrooke where they realized that they did not want to do physics, but video games. They enrolled in the Bachelor of Computer Engineering where they studied together for more than four years. At the end of their studies, they dreamed of founding their own video game studio. In order to achieve their goal, they set out a 10-year plan to learn the skills needed to make games and save money. After working and holding important positions in the AAA industry for ten years, Francis and Maxime founded Lucid Dreams in January 2017.The company's first game is Legends of Ethernal, a 2D action-adventure fantasy game about a young boy who finds his home destroyed and his parents missing. The plot of the game revolves around his misadventures as he searches for his family. The company has signed a publishing contract with Natsume Inc., a well-known American game developer and publisher for the multimillion-selling Harvest Moon series. Lucid Dreams Studio has also signed a commercial agreement with NA Publishing for the commercialization of the game in Japan. Legends of Ethernal released simultaneously on Steam, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and Switch on October 30, 2020.
BIOMORPH, the new project of Lucid Dreams, has been in development since August 2020 and it has already had recognition by being chosen as a finalist for the Ubisoft Indie Series in 2021. The game was announced by Nintendo Life at the beginning of August 2022 and the gameplay trailer was unveiled by IGN during Awesome Indies at Gamescom.
In 2021, Lucid Dreams Studio signed a partnership with the Indie Asylum, a workspace as well as an effervescent incubator-accelerator that will allow the company to be able to share knowledge and human resources with other dynamic game studios. This accelerator has led to the significant growth of several independent studios in Quebec such as Trebuchet Studio, Chasing Rats Games and Lowbirth Games.
The culture that the company has offered since its inception is one of sharing and excellence. Each member of the team has been selected for their ability to communicate well, their qualities related to the position offered, but also for the high quality of production demonstrated in each project carried out. The development team is now 10 people and has an excellent balance between senior people in the industry and newer ones. The company also has a higher ratio of women on the team as well as in leadership positions, which makes Lucid Dreams Studio a rarity in the gaming space.
Although the company is a new player in the independent video game scene in Quebec (~5 years of existence), it has a large network of contacts in the AAA environment. A good relationship with the various players in large studios in Quebec remains a priority.
In order to increase their integration into the Canadian video game scene, Lucid Dreams Studio has participated since 2019 in several economic missions outside Canada with other Canadian studios. In addition to developing its business network, these activities gave the studio the opportunity to get to know and make itself known to other participating Canadian companies. Representatives of the company are regularly on site during events organized in Montreal by the Guilde du jeu vidéo du Québec.
